I do not know if that is standard for dealers or just the particular one I dealt with.

The place that I purchased the machine is an authorized Janome dealer and offered me free classes on my particular machine. It came with an instructional DVD which gives you the basics of each option on the machine. It also will accept memory cards and downloads off of your computer. I love the versatility of the embroidery program loaded on the machine. I had checked out several Janome machines and for what I wanted to do, and for the price, the 9500 was best suited for me. You will be totally amazed at the results. We also own a larger commercial embroidery machine so I feel comfortable in saying the the Janome MC9500 produces the same quality embroidery at a more affordable price.Don't be afraid to experiment with this machine. I am sure that anyone who is considering the purchase of an embroidery machine would be extremely pleased that they chose to start with this particular one. I am not going to let that stop me from using the machine to it's fullest capability.I have brought a few smiles with my creations so far and hope to continue to do so in the future. This is only because I feel that there should be an easier way to do hats but I have yet to discover it. The only function that I have a problem with is the hat hoop. As long as you take the time to learn your machine, there is no limit as to what you can accomplish. At the current time, this is my favorite machine to do just about anything on. WOW.It is capable of so many different jobs all in one machine. I, along with my husband, researched many machines before purchasing the Janome MC9500. Even though I have several sewing machines and 1 other embroidery machine (Simplicity SE3) I felt it was time to expand our talents.
